Yes they don't close for much
There is no buffet
Loved this place. Unique, antiquated and nostalgic. A genuine sense of true southern hospitality and quality!
Old style fish camp, rustic setting on the river. Best whole catfish and Cole salad anywhere
Despite the fact that the waitress got my order slightly wrong this time, I still rate this place as awesome for some fine Southern cooking. I was here once before several years ago and the food was delicious then and remains so now! The fish and hush puppies are great, and the cole slaw very satisfying. And oh, yes, nobody does sweet tea like Southerners! Ezell's is an old-time jewel hidden right off the lake it sits by, and well worth the visit. Thems some good eats, yes, sir.
Service was good and timing was great, but presentational and flavor needs work.. sweet tea and hush puppies was great
Food was 👍 as usual. Oysters could have been cooked a little longer. 🦀 claws were delicious but market price was a little steep. Great place for the family and definitely worth a visit.
Our experience here today was horrible! We were there for a small party. I hate leaving negative reviews but it was that bad! Our sweet potato fries was burned where you couldn't eat them, hush puppies were pretty much the same. My shrimp was almost rubbery. Like it had been double cooked and they never came back and refilled my water. I had to get up and do it myself. Also the cocktail sauce tasted spoiled. And everything we got was served on a paper plate. I will say the blooming onion was good. Ezells use to be so good I don't know what has happened!!!
Shrimp was to greasy and over cooked like they fried them and put them in oven to keep warm, French fries the same way.
It's a tradition for us to go here when Alabama visiting my family. It's truly an original Alabama experience! I always get the catfish (you can't go wrong with that). It's off the beaten path a bit but I guess everything is, in this part of Alabama.
Food was excellent. Waitress was friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The water did look like they got it out of the river so I didnt drink it lol 😂 but we enjoyed our time here. Cant wait to go back again.
Good food nice wators but nasty building that is soon going to fall in
My waitress was friendly, attentive and expeditious. The food order was okay, and the portions were sufficient. Not much menu selection and the deer, hog and moose heads on every wall were a little creepy for a "FISH camp". The coleslaw was excellent (I like it sweet like theirs, and this had lots of onions too). I ordered the 5pc. Catfish platter, a fried oyster platter and fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and lemoncello cake (yum!) for dessert. If you don't like fried foods, you might want to pass on this restaurant. This place was recommended to me by my friend for the catfish dinner.
The food was okay, and the price wasn't to bad. The place has a lot of charm but, is in need of some repairs. The road leading to the restaurant is in bad shape and has a lot of pot holes, so be careful driving in.
Excellent food, good prices, and friendly!!!
Excellent food! The tea is ALWAYS good!
Have been going here since the 1970's. The atmosphere is what brings you there. The fried food is what makes you want to come back. It started as fish camp on the banks of the Tombigbee River. It's changed since it started--they enclosed the back porch. They've expanded it. But, at its heart, it is still a fish camp. Good fried catfish. Wonderful, creamy slaw. Fried dill pickles are a must. Huge glasses of sweet tea. This is a destination. There is probably better catfish around, but it is always good. And the ambiance is unbeatable.
Great food and service. Has pretty scenery on the river. We saw a barge pass while we were eating. Love the atmosphere and the experience. Prices are reasonable as well. I would recommend to try it even if it is a drive it is worth it.
Good food, great service and atmosphere
Fantastic place only reason giving it four stars instead of five I should have check the menu better fryed stuff don't work well with me, how ever what I got was very good .
Many, many years ago, when a young deer hunting teen, my brother and I'd be treated by my dad to supper at Ezell's. No finer, more delicious fare existed! Over the years, life happened and I no longer was able to enjoy the food and atmosphere found there. Now older and in bad condition, all I can do is travel to Ezell's and enjoy fried catfish and rough-chopped coleslaw in my happiest of dreams. Thank you, Ezell's.
Charming place with the best catfish anywhere. Couple that with the family and friends you are sure to meet, and this is not just a MUST SEE, but a Must for anytime you pass through this slice of heaven. ...or when you want to return home to a place where folks eat right, play right and have a heart of gold!!!
I always have to visit when I go to Alabama! Excellent food
This place is really neat! It's literally on the Tombigbee River with an amazing view! We seen a few boats go by & lots of fish jumping in the river. Even seen a snake swimming. The food was delicious, fresh & hot! Also didn't take too long for it to come out the kitchen! My kids really enjoyed looking at all the fish, moose, hogs & deer that are mounted on the walls. Lots of history in this little place! All in all I would definitely recommend this place if you haven't already been! (It's also more toddler friendly than most places, especially if you have a very adventurous toddler like mine)
Historic location for seafood. Scenic views
The food was great. My fried shrimp and fried okra was delicious! Catfish was great.
Ezell's always has the best fish and coleslaw! This was my first time having the blooming onion and it was good too! Always love going to Ezell's.
There for awhile the service and food had gotten bad. But the last time I went everything was fine. Much improved.
tastes good
Well 1st off you can only order certain things on the menu. And for the price portions. Where small, your better off just cooking the stuff yourself, food looks nothing like the pictures. Save your money and cook it yourself or go elsewhere trust me it'll taste way better
The food was good, but it was very hot sitting in the dinning area
FOOD WAS HOT AND GOOD WE HAD FISH SERVICE WAS GREAT THANKS EZELL'S WE WILL BE BACK SOON
Can't say how food is. Came on Wednesday; they're closed, even tho mapquest says they're open. Check their website or facebook page for hours.
I heard great things about this place from co workers so I decided to try it out.. well the food is good but the to go plates aren’t worth the money they charge for them. Maybe it’s a different experience when you eat there idk I’m not willing to drive an hour to try it out again.
Do not judge this place by the outside. It looks old and rundown but the food is absolutely amazing. Some of the best catfish I have ever had. The bill even came with a funny joke.
Love this place. Quaint, romantic, great food and service. I always look forward to coming to this area. And going out of my way to stop by. And add downtown Mason House and you have a good combination.
Great Fish......Nostalgic Atmosphere
Super old, dusty and spiderwebs everywhere. Better then fast food but nothing to brag about. Probably wont eat there again.
Most delightful spot with a river view and delicious menu if small...
The catfish, slaw and hushpuppies were amazing along with the service. This is a Choctaw County and Alabama treasure.
It's nice to eat here by the river. Especially when you can catch the Barrages going and coming. And the Cole Slaw will never let you down with it's flavor along with the whole Catfish, yum...
Excellent catfish... The history of this hidden treasure is unbelievable.. It once was a pony express out post.. A must see and a must eating experience you shouldn’t pass up... You definitely will not be disappointed.. Ride through the cotton fields and enjoy the historic building, great rustic atmosphere, and delicious Catfish...
Always excellent food and service. Great for large get-togethers with family and friends.
Really great food. Interesting building dating back to the 1930s.
The food was great. Good serving size and a good value for the money. The building could use a good spring cleaning. The back wall of windows, between the dirt, cobwebs and dead flies, looks like they hadn't been cleaned this decade.
Excellent food!
The pieces of fish are rediculous. compaired to what they used to be. A minnow isnt much smaller lol. Seriously the size is very small for the price. But still good food. I miss going to Ezells with my family though, when I was younger we used to meet all the family there. Can't ever trade the memories.
Nice country atmosphere with southern hospitality. We had a great time All of the food was great. The seafood platter is spectacular. Shrimp and grits was the best I have ever had. Great time!
Loved this place and food was great
Love it and we will be back
We love Ezell's. Food is great!! Love the fish "camp" feel and atmosphere. When we were getting ready to leave, our truck would not start and the gentleman that helped was (assuming he was manager/owner) went to the trouble to go to town and get cables. Wish they had an Ezell's closer to us in Gulf Shores, AL.
Not really my Choice for seafood very skimpy with food the waitress told us the food was large proportions but sadly that was far from the truth. Will not be returning
